It would be very helpful to have some sort of a switch and/or setting in the Developer Edition of SQL Server that would make it run like Standard Edition.

Thanks for the suggestion. However, we do not plan to provide this functionality. We provide edition upgrade/downgrade paths post-setup on working instances to update the edition to be tested for this purpose.

I wantd to extend that to to all editions instead of just workgroup starting from developer edition.

Having just encountered a recent situation where a system was running fine on SQL2008-Dev and also SQL2005-Workgroup, I found out that certain features would not work under SQL2008-Workgroup (and that there was no way to use the "Change Edition" part of the setup to switch to "developer" edition while the issue could be resolved.

Could I expand on this suggestion by requesting that the Developer-Edition has some sort of switch that could include "Workgroup Edition" in the list.

This "Temporary Switch" should also allow features like SSIS, Reporting Services, etc to be "temporarily disabled".

It would have the added benefit that developers could temporarily switch their computer to the relevant edition and run better "pre-deployment testing" on a system before transferring from a test to a production-environment

Thanks for the suggestion. We will investigate the impact of providing this functionality.
