Description

The developers write queries that pivot on all customer(eg. 10000) and so they get a table with 10000columns but only 5rows, while normally they had to pivot on A,B,C,D and E.
Is there a way to prevent the pivot on a list bigger > x?

We will use this request to track the overall PIVOT enhancements.

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback. You should consider implementing the check in your application when you generate the values in the PIVOT clause. SQL Server doesn't impose limits on the number of columns other than what we have for SELECT statement and so on. It is unlikely we will implement any special check for PIVOT. Lastly, we do not support SELECT triggers yet so you cannot do these checks.
