Thanks for your feedback. Just want to follow up on this. I assume by a "custom" MDX query/dataset you are referring to a query you created using the MDX query designer that comes with BIDS. Let us know if this is not correct. Also, can you clarify, when you reopen the SSRS report after installing VS 2010, are you reopening it in VS 2005 or VS 2010?

If you are opening it in VS 2010 using a CTP version of SQL Server "Denali", this behavior is by design, since the datasets have been moved off the main surface into the "Report Data" pane on the left side.
