When you have variable varchar(max) or nvarchar(max) and you assign it with UPDATE statment like @c = @c then SQL server disconnects you.
2005 and 2008 have the same issue.

We have now fixed this bug in the next major version of SQL Server. Thanks for reporting the issue.
