Description

The msdb.dbo.restorehistory BOL item (https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/421176/restore-start-date-restore-finish-date-column-for-restorehistory-table) lists restore_date as: Date and time of the restore operation. Can be NULL.

Is this the start of the restore (I find it to be this in testing), the end time, or something else. Please clarify and have the documentation writers be more specific when noting the definitions of columns.

Oh, I should mention that for SQL Server 2012 Books Online, the fix will be published to MSDN in a couple of weeks. However, for SQL Server 2008 Books Online, this fix will not be published to MSDN for several months.

Thanks for reporting that the restore_date column in msdb.dbo.restorehistory should be clarified. I've expanded the description as follows:

"Date and time of the completion of the restore operation. Can be NULL."

I appreciate your taking the time to file a defect.
