There are cases when it is simpler to use detach/attach instead of backup/restore. For example, if the database is very large and you lack for resources. Unfortunately attaching a database cannot be done without recovering. It becomes even more important if you make copies of a database during creating an availability group. In this case you have to stick to backup/restore.
