Description

If you have a central management server registered and a list of servers when you right click on the server you should be able to open the Sql Server Configuration Manager on a remote server. I can do this using SSMS 2008R2.

When I use SSMS2012 on the same server from the same client I get an error 'Cannot Connect to WMI Provider. You do not have permission or the server is unreachable. Note you can only manher SQL Server 2005 and later'

Well the server I am trying to manage is 2008 R2 and I can connect to it using SSMS 2008 R2. It is as though SSMS 2012 is only trying to connect to the 2012 WMI namespace.

Hello SPE109. This behavior is by design. We will be updating documentation to specify the level of compatibility. -Walter A Jokiel, Program Manager, SQL Server (wajokiel@microsoft.com)
