“app_name” field is not capturing data for all connections/queries in sys.dm_pdw_exec_sessions DMV. Complete data for this field provides additional value to system workload analysis - distinct applications, frequency, and query counts, average run-time etc. Attached sample screen-prints.

Good morning Raja,

first of all, a happy new year 2013.

Talking with the corresponding triage team in this area, I could confirm that if the client specifies the 'app name', it also should show up in the equivalent field. If I remember correctly, you mentioned that for the same application you could see different 'behavior', i.e. for the one query, the app name did show up, but for another query (issued by the same (!) application), it did *not*. Can you re-confirm this statement? If this is the case, can you also mention the application as one example for this 'misbehavior'?

Thanks and best regards,
- Artin
