One good use case of the procedure to migrate an existing user to a contained user would be post-migration of the database on a server where the original login for the uncontained user does not exist. Currently, to get it to work, you have to first create the login and then migrate the user. It would require less work and be more intuitive to be able to migrate the user without the login existing.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your feedback. Trying to migrate the database to a CDB after moving to the new instance without the login is not possible as it would be impossible to migrate the login's password hash into the database. As such, you must either covert to a CDB first before moving the database to a new instance or copy the login over as well.
