I installed recently released SSDT BI tools for VS2012 and I can work on my existing SSIS/SSAS projects all well in VS2012, including build, deploy and process SSAS cubes, etc.

But when I try to build my SSIS/SSAS projects via the command line of VS2012, such as

devenv.exe mySolution.sln /rebuild Release /out "C:\temp\buildLog.txt"

I will get the error like below in the log file.

Error: Catastrophic failure (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8000FFFF (E_UNEXPECTED))

I can do that with VS2010 with the BI tools installed with SQL Server 2012.

I'm on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit, and I have both VS2010 and VS2012 installed at the same time, together with SQL Server 2012 developer edition.

I had the same error during the SSIS build and I installed SSDT-BI for VS2012 11.0.3402.0 and now it is working.
Microsoft Visual Studio Premium 2012
Version 11.0.61030.00 Update 4
SQL Server Data Tools 11.1.40403.0

I'm running VS2012 Professional Update 4 (11.0.61030.00) - and its working, but i'm also running VS2012 Shell (Integrated) Update 4 (11.0.61030.0 Q11Rel) on another machine and it gives the Catastrophic Failure message.

I get two different errors using SSDT version 11.1.31203.1 - a later version than the version linked to below. On my local machine (Win 8) I get;

The system can not find the file specified.
The operation could not be completed. The parameter is incorrect.

On a Server 2008 R2 I get;

Error: Catastrophic failure (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8000FFFF (E_UNEXPECTED))

Using the same command line.

I have the same error when I try to build my SSDT-BI projects from command line; I have VS2012 Update 4, SSDT-BI and SSDT January 2014 update.

Kasper, I've installed the latest SSDT on my local dev box and on my build servers, and I still get the same error when trying to /deploy SSRS projects from the command line. /build works, but /deploy crashes

This is fixed with the lastest version of SSDT that you can download here:

I have seen the same problems with VS2012.2

the workaround of using VS2010 for the command line build seems to have worked for me

Same issue here. We can't hook this up to any sort of CI until we can build on the command line.

I am using Windows 8 instead of Windows 7

I am also getting the same error. I need to automate the build generation for SSIS and this seems to be the only way.
