Existing Snapshots on a SQL Server are not accessible after an upgrade to SQL Server 2014. The snapshots can neither be deleted. The following is the error msg that is thrown when trying to access or delete the snapshots.

Msg 946, Level 14, State 1, Line 1
Cannot open database 'Domains' version 706. Upgrade the database to the latest version.

I have the same error. I didn't do any upgrades. Just switched compatability mode from 2012 to 2014. This is the bug

Thanks Ottsca, that did it for me.

Here was my work around. Stop SQL Server Service. Delete the .SS file. Start the SQL Server Service. Delete the snapshot. Create the snapshot. My process also involved a couple of Availability Group failovers so that things stayed up and running through this work around.

Hi Ajay,

if this is expected behaviour, and I cannot delete the snapshot, am I to leave the snapshot there forever? Doesn't seem sensible.

The snapshots cannot be dropped. Please confirm this to be a bug and that it will be fixed.

Thanks for reporting this. This is expected behavior, and database snapshots are not expected to be work after an upgrade.
