Description

After installing the VS2008 RTM (Team Suite Edition), in a machine that previously have Beta 2 installed and where there is a side-by-side VS2005 installation.
When I try to develop a web site or a web project in VS2008, after insert a ASP.NET Web Control in the page, the rendering a design time display me a gray rectangle that evidence a problem occured during the rendering. This is the message that I received:

Error Creating Control - Label1
Method not found: 'Boolean System.Web.UI.Design.ViewRendering.get_Visible()'.

At run-time all work fine but at design time I cannot see any server control. I have tried to repair my installation but this doesn't solve the problem. Any suggestion will be very appreciated.

I am having the same problem on Win XP SP2.
I tried to uninstall vs2008 and framework 3.5 and reinstall all but the problem persist.
I saw the System.Web.dll version is 2.0.50727.1433

Hi Knodev,

The absence of "ViewRendering.get_Visible()" is a telltale sign that your System.Web.dll framework version is incorrect. This could be the result of an incorrect Windows Update patch. You will need to go to Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.xxxx, right click on System.Web.dll and theck version number. It should be 2.0.50727.13xx or higher. If it is lower that 1300, you will need to uninstall the 3.5 and 2.0 and reinstall.

Thanks!
Jeff

I have the same issue. I'm running Vista Ultimate, VS2008 Prof. I had VS2008 Beta 2 installed earlier.
When I create a new Web Project and try to open the Default.aspx in design mode, the IDE does not respond and no error message is displayed. Design view is not rendered at all. But the project itself complies and runs fine.

Can anybody from MS give a solution for this. Short of re-formatting the computer I have tried anything I can think of: re-installing VS, .NET, .NET SP, etc.

The problem occurs because the version of System.Design.dll (as well as all other dlls) is 2.0.50727.1378, older than RTM (2.0.50727.1432). You can see in Reflector that indeed, in this version, the ViewRendering class does NOT have the Visible property.

Appart from the design-time error, I also get weird run-time errors when I take my assembly to another computer, probably due to the fact that I am linked to the wrong framework.

Got the same issue, Vista Enterprise with beta 2 uninstall. I am also getting an error "The Visual C++ Resource Editor Package ({74AAD8B2-3294-49CB-BB5D-E9BAB132BFD5}) did not load because of previous errors. For assistance, contact the package vendor. To attempt to load this package again, type 'devenv /resetskippkgs' at the command prompt.". Not sure if this is related.
