I using Win7 x64 and noticed this issue when attempting to use crystal reports it can however be reproduced in an a simple hello world application.

Crystal runtime is currently an x86 only so the application need to be either running on an x86 machine or built to target an x86 machine.

if you are running x64 and target your project as x86 you get the error detailed below

The Silverlight runtime only supports assemblies that are built AnyCpu (MSIL). So you must use the workaround described in comments section.

You can use mixed build configurations for your project.
Under the Build menu, choose "Configuration Manager"
Choose your Active solution configuration: Relesae
Choose your Active solution platform: Mixed Platforms
And then choose the platform for each project in your solution...
Silverlight: Any CPU
Crystal Reports: x86

when creating a crystal object it will throw an exception and tell you that crystal has not been installed properly and you should install the correct runtime however there is nothing other than the x86 available.

So to get crystal to work you need to be able to set the configuration manager to x86 so the app builds as x86

Running it as anything else e.g. 'Any CPU' or 'x64' means that crystal will not work

The configuration manager should be set to "Any CPU"
