Description

When you have a long line of text, like one that consists of the report title, "Horizontal autoscrolling not working with ctrl+shift", 10 times in a row without any line breaks, and display it without text wrapping enabled, then there occurs the following problem:

When you move your caret to the end of the line (so that the editor's horizontal scrollbar is at the right side too), hold down shift and then hold down the left cursor key to select the text, horizontal autoscrolling performs as one would expect, so that the caret is always in view.

But if you hold down shift+ctrl to select whole tokens, and then hold down the left cursor key to select the line from right to left, the autoscrolling does not occur anymore, and the cursor gets out of view. This worked properly in VS 2008.

I have just recognized that on a long line of text, ctrl+shift+selecting with the caret at the right side of the text shows some erroneous behavior too. I wonder if this is connected? Suppose I have selected a long line of code, with the selection starting on the left and the caret being on the right (automatically followed by scrolling the text). Now I move the caret left with ctrl+shift still pressed - as soon as a "word" is out of the selection to the right side, the autoscrolling erroneously hides it by immediately scrolling left. It should only start scrolling left when the caret hit the left side of the screen.

Hi Shrinker,

Thank you for reporting this bug. Our experience was the same as yours - the word navigation logic is working as expected, but the caret is incorrectly scrolled out of view. I'm writing to let you know that although we couldn't fit this in before VS 2010 RTM, we just checked in a fix for this caret visibility issue for the next version of Visual Studio. We will also consider the fix for VS 2010 SP1.

Thanks for using Visual Studio 2010 and sending your feedback!
