If Speech Recognition is in the "Listening" mode, a program developed in Visual Studio 2010 will have a hung process when the user exits the program.  The user must go into Task Manager and either End Task or End Process on the executable.
The application developed in Visual Studio 2010 contains the mfc100.dll, msvcp100.dll and msvcr100.dll.

Thanks for the report. We have investigated this and found that there is a workaround that can be applied in the application code. We have not added the fix to MFC itself because we're not sure that it won't have some negative effect in some other situation.

The suggested workaround is to add the following code to CMainFrame::OnClose:

if (m_pProxy != NULL)
    ::CoDisconnectObject ((IAccessible*)m_pProxy, NULL);
