Hello Brian Dahl. We have a known bug in upgrade scenarios from a higher level Beta edition to a lower level RC edition. Users who upgrade from VS Beta Ultimate to VS RC Pro will get an invalid license error. Your work around is the correct steps to workaround the issue.
