VS2012 hangs when attempting to add a controller using the Add => Controller context menu when the Solution originated from VS2010.

I ran into the same problem. It is usually caused by the Operating System blocking the files/folders because they were downloaded or copied from an untrusted source. More on this can be read on my blog here:

Interestingly... I experienced this just now with a brand-new project created entirely under VS2012. I went ahead and installed the Visual Studio 2012 Feedback Tool, restarted VS2012, and re-attempted to create a new controller. Strangely, it worked. Perhaps VS2012 needed a restart.

The original poster may have not followed up, but it seems others are experiencing the issue. Since presumably MSFT has both VS2010 and VS2012 available, perhaps MSFT could attempt to reproduce this? Many end users including myself upgraded to VS2012 and no longer have a VS2010 setup that would facilitate reproducing this issue.

Could you please give us a dump file and call stack so that we can conduct further research?

Visual Studio now has an extension called Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Feedback Tool, available on the VS gallery(http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/f8a5aac8-0418-4f88-9d34-bdbe2c4cfe72).

The extension allows you to
1. upload files,
2. collect trace and dump files
3. collect steps while you're repro'ing the issue, as well as
4. SQM logs about VS extensions installed
5. System details (in DxDiag output)
