Description

I'm unable to install Visual Studio 2012 Update 1 CTP 3 (vsupdate_KB2707250.exe) on Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit).

The setup starts, then crashes. Re-downloading the setup file does not help.

When running the setup as "vsupdate_KB2707250.exe /log log.txt", The log file contains the following entry:

I had a similar issue as the OP and his workaround also worked for me. Same area of log, different error:

At this point, we believe that you're unblocked on the installation (repairing the .NET 3.5 installation).

Feel free to reactivate if you continue to run into issues.

The installer is using .NET 3.5 along with WPF. The MethodNotFoundException problems will often occur on WPF internals (System.Windows.Window in this case) when the core WPF assemblies are mismatched in the GAC. Effectively, this indicates .NET 3.5 is currently broken on your computer. It is unclear why this occurred, but the likely reason is due to a failed security update or otherwise that left WPF in a partially updated state. The best suggestion for correcting the problem is to repair the operating system. You might be able to uninstall the .NET 3.5 components from Windows Features in Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, and then reinstall them. If the problem persists, you should consider opening a support ticket with Microsoft Support.

Thanks for your feedback.

In order to fix the issue, we must first reproduce the issue in our labs. In order to efficiently investigate and reproduce this issue, we are requesting additional information outlined below.

Could you please give us vs setup log so that we can conduct further research?

You can get the log files with the following steps: 1) Download collect.exe from the link below. <http://go.microsoft.com/?LinkId=8967043> 2) You may choose to save the tool for later use, or to run directly. 3) The utility creates a compressed cabinet of all the VS and .NET logs to %TEMP%\vslogs.cab.

Please submit this information to us within 4 business days. We look forward to hearing from you with this information.
