Description

According to this bug, the MS recommendation is to uninstall Update 2 so C++/CLI devs can debug again.

https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/783004/children-cannot-be-evaluated-on-c-cli-after-vs2012-update-2

After uninstalling Update 2 and Repairing VS 2012, I am left with missing ATL header and library files and cannot get them back.

The issue is caused by certain registry keys that do not get removed during uninstall.

Open regedit.exe as an administrator
Search for "PaddedVersion"
Note: Path will include "Wow6432Node" on a 64bit OS

Verify that parent key path is HKLM\SOFTWARE\[Wow6432Node\]Microsoft\VisualStudio\11.0\VC\Libraries

Select and delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\[Wow6432Node\]Microsoft\VisualStudio\11.0\VC\Libraries (deletes all subkeys)

I don’t recommend using the command line reg.exe to delete these because it usually won’t.

Repair or reinstall Visual Studio
