UPDATE: 06/18/2013 - This problem has been solved. Refer to my post in the Workarounds section. I have also included updated screenshots.
Sometime after installing Visual Studio 2012 Update 1  / Update 2, and when using MS Help Viewer 2.0 since then, I get the following message in the status bar of the Viewer application:

"No books returned from
The Windows Registry entries seem to be correct on a Win64 machine, based on other feedback.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know the Help book service was down, and your patience while this issue was being addressed. On Monday the online service experienced a disruption which, as you have seen, affected the Help book service. That problem was fixed yesterday morning. We apologize for the inconvenience.

exact same thing happened to me. I'm watching it in fiddler and the only error I see is a 404 message when it tries to go to;vs.110/primary/mtps.offline HTTP/1.1
