Attempting to use std::async with move-only types (e.g. std::unique_ptr) results in a compilation error about attempting to use the copy constructor of that move-only type, even when wrapping the instance of that type with std::move. Both GCC and LLVM/clang compile the attached sample correctly.

Thanks for reporting this bug. I've resolved it as a duplicate of , which is on our list to fix in the next major version of VC after 2013.
