When you call DTE.ActiveWindow.ProjectItem.Document from an add-in, package or macro, you get null for files under the Solution Items folder, but not for files of a project

We are having the same issue with Web Essentials 2013 extension when dealing with Nodejs projects. The generated HTML, CSS and JS files from compilers (LESS, SCSS, CoffeeScript, TypedCoffeeScript, Sweetjs and TypeScript) lands in the project directory. Upon querying the ProjectItems, we get those files by since the .Document is null, they are not shown as included in project. See https://github.com/madskristensen/WebEssentials2013/pull/741.

Momentarily, are you guys planning on rewriting DTE like MSBuild? Particularly, its ability to query the collection using Linq queries, which our good old DTE lacks. That would reduce the complexity of writing extensions and make it efficient.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi @Carlos

Thanks for your feedback.

Unfortunately the feature you're requesting is not supported for loose solution items at this time. The behavior you report has been in place for several releases, and we have no current plan to change it.

If sufficient customers vote this bug up we may reconsider this.
