I think Microsoft needs to swallow its foolish pride a little here and take a leaf out of Google's book(this is where people start commenting about not just copying Google and "needing 'our' own rich mapping and nav app") I'm not suggesting whipping out the app photocopier but I am suggesting using similar public domain features such as voice guidance and improvement on the turn by turn I.E the directions list does not move instead you have to tell it where you are in relation to the list so what's the point? why put GPS on wp8 if you won't properly utilize it? the maps are static and do not move with the user when in nav mode. The map app as a basic map app is fine if all you want is a digital road atlas but nowadays we want functional user friendly navigation too something Google has provided for quite some time now and is the main thing I miss about android that and the workarounds for lack of adobe flash. Options for car or pedestrian guidance great idea but pointless if data is not updated as you progress like your eta that never changes no alternate routes offered and to use it in a car would not be legal or safe as you must physically interact with the device to utilize the app.
